The "No Kill" policy currently in effect at the Lake County Animal Control Center will remain in effect. As your sheriff, I will futher enchance the efforts at the animal control center. The center will become the "Lake County Sheriff's Animal Control Rescue and Care Center", and this center will be staffed daily by professionally trained animal care personnel, volunteers, and veterinarians (on call) to ensure proper care and treatment of animals brought into the center. In addition, we will work vigorously to increase the amount of animal adoptions.

As your Sheriff, I will work with the offices of the United Stated Senators and Congressmen and any other recources necessary in order to secure additional federal funds that would assist in our efforts to combat crime in Northwest Indiana and relieve the burden on local tax dollars.

HELP! is on the way. Request a card from John to keep in your glove compartment with auto safety tips and non-emergency numbers for the Lake County communities. As your sheriff, I will make these cards available to all residents in Lake County. Remember, always be vigilant, your safety depends on it.

Far too many rapes and sexual assaults either go unreported or lack thorough and compassionate investigation. Unfortunately, the victims of this type of crime are affected both physically and emotionally. As your sheriff, I will see too it that a full-time staff of professionally trained officers will be assigned to investigate these serious offenses.

Senior Citizens are unfortunately vulnerable to crime, scams, and other life threatening dangers. As your sheriff, I will establish Senior Citizen Safety Information programs to educate and protect our seniors. In addition, the Lake County Sheriff's Department will vigorously investigate and prosecute all crimes perpetrated against seniors.

School violence is increasing. As your sheriff, I will partner with school districts throughout Lake County to improve safety and security in and around our schools in order to provide a safer environment for our children to learn. School violence must stop!

These are problems that affect far too many individuals and families. As your sheriff, I will partner with the Lake County Prosecutor, Child Protective Services, domestic violence shelters, and all other related social agencies. Collectively we can work to investigate these crimes, protect the victims, and ensure that they do not reoccur.

Gangs and drugs are costing lives and destroying our neighborhoods. As your sheriff, I will re-establish a full time professionally trained Lake County Sheriff's Department Gang/Drug Intelligence Unit to work with local law enforcement agencies throughout Lake County.

There are serious ongoing problems that exist with the Lake County Jail system. Overcrowding continues to be one of the major problems. This has led to an increase in the amount of violence within the jail. The general health and the mental health needs of those incarcerated are often not fully addressed. That rate of infectious diseases has increased as well as the rates of suicides. I have worked with the Lake County jail for several years both as a jail officer and as a supervisor. As your Sheriff, I intend to apply this working knowledge to properly administer jail operations. The Lake County Jail will be staffed by a professionally trained warden, jail commanders and correction officers. These officers will enforce jail rules and regulations while still providing safe and humane treatment of those incarcerated.

There are hundreds of miles of highways, expressways, and rural roads that run through Lake County. Thousands of motorists travel these roads daily. As your Sheriff, I will establish a full time traffic unit and increase the amount of patrols on our roadways. This traffic unit will target those unsafe drivers who drive while intoxicated, drive at excessive speeds, or drive in a reckless manner.
